The new Google “+1” feature adds “+1” buttons to their search results. Clicking the “+1” button next to a page indicates you recommend it. Others may see your recommendations for any search terms containing the same page in the results.
To check out the new Google “+1” (“plus one”) feature, try this:
-
1.Log into Google. You’ll need to be logged in so that they knows who your friends are and so any recommendations can be seen in the search results while you are logged in.
-
2.Go to the Google Buzz page in my profile (or of anyone who has already joined the Google “+1” experiment).
-
3.Click on the Follow button (“Follow Robert” for mine). (Notice the “+1’s” tab at the far right end of the tab bar.)
-
4.Go to the Google home page or Google search bar.
-
5.Enter “html abbr” in the Google search box and click the “Search” button. The results look like the picture above.
-
6.In the search results, look for the entry that reads
-
“HTML <abbr> Tag for Acronyms & Abbreviations”. Look for the
-
tiny picture under the breadcrumb trail in those results.
-
(BTW, search “breadcrumb trail search engine results” to see how that breadcrumb trail was created in the results.)
-
7.If you don’t see any profile pictures with the search results, you may need to “Join” the “+1” experiment:

-
8.Create a Google profile to get the “+1 button” that allows you to make recommendations other people will see.
Hint: In the search engine results, right click the link and “Open Link in New Tab” to make it easy to “+1” a page after the fact.
